Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do you take my insurance plan?

Philadelphia Couples Therapy is an out-of-network (OON) provider and does not submit claims directly to insurance companies, but many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement for therapy services through their insurance plan’s out-of-network mental health benefits. See the next question for more information on how we can help you submit for reimbursement.

Do you offer out-of-network (OON) benefits?

Yes! If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement. Many clients are able to recover a portion of their therapy costs this way. We strongly recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to verify your out-of-network benefits for mental health services. Please keep in mind that benefit quotes from your insurer are not a guarantee of reimbursement.

What is the typical reimbursement for an out-of-network provider?

Clients with out-of-network benefits typically receive reimbursement ranging from 20% to 80% of the usual and customary rate (UCR) after meeting their deductible. The exact reimbursement amount depends on your specific insurance plan. Since the UCR is determined by your insurance provider— not Philadelphia Couples Therapy— we recommend contacting your insurer directly. For guidance on what questions to ask, please see Fees & Insurance.

Will you provide a superbill for insurance reimbursement?

Absolutely! We’re happy to provide a monthly superbill upon request. This document includes all the necessary information to submit a claim to your insurance provider. If you’d prefer to receive superbills automatically each month, just let us know– it’s easy to set up.

What are your fees?

Our fees vary depending on the psychologist you are matched with. For detailed information, please see Fees & Insurance. You’re also welcome to contact our Intake Coordinator to learn more about our fees for couples, individual, and family therapy sessions.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Each psychologist has a limited number of sliding scale slots on their caseload. If you are a current client and experiencing financial hardship, please contact our Intake Coordinator to apply.

What is your cancellation policy and fee?

We require two full business days’ notice to cancel a session. Late cancellations or missed sessions will incur a fee equal to the full session rate.

How do I schedule a session?

If you contact us, our Intake Coordinator, Elisabeth Wester, can talk to you about which psychologist might be the best fit for you and she’ll help you schedule a complementary 15-minute virtual consultation. You can also book the consultation directly online.

You can request a consultation in the way that feels easiest for you:

Do you offer evening or weekend sessions?

Yes, we do! Evening and weekend sessions are available depending on the psychologist you’re matched with. Our Intake Coordinator, Elisabeth Wester, will work with you to find a time that aligns with your schedule.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel a session?

We understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please reach out directly to your psychologist. We kindly ask for at least two business days’ notice to avoid a late cancellation fee.

Do you offer in-person and virtual sessions?

Yes, we offer both in-person and virtual sessions. Virtual sessions are conducted via Google Meet, which is HIPAA-compliant to protect your privacy. In-person sessions are held at the beautiful historical Wells Fargo building at 123 South Broad Street on the 22nd Floor. Street parking is available and there is a nearby parking garage.

How long are therapy sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes long. This allows time to explore your concerns, build insight, and work steadily toward your goals each week.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of therapy varies from person to person and depends on what brings you in and what you’d like to work on. Many of our therapists work from a long-term model, meaning some clients choose to stay in therapy for six months or longer. That said, we’ll collaborate with you to create a plan that fits your therapy goals– whether you’re looking for shorter-term support or a deeper, ongoing process.

How frequently should I expect to be seen?

At PCT, clients are seen on a weekly basis, particularly in the early stages of treatment. Weekly sessions help foster consistency, build trust, and create momentum in your work together.

Do you see individuals, or only couples?

Although our name may suggest otherwise, we absolutely see individuals as well as couples and families. Whether you’re navigating a life transition, seeking personal growth, or working through relationship challenges, our psychologists are experienced in working with individuals from all walks of life.

What questions should I ask my psychologist to know if we’re a good fit?

Here are a few helpful questions to consider:

  • What is your experience working with the issues I’m facing?
  • What is your therapeutic style or approach?
  • How do you typically structure sessions?
  • What can I expect in terms of treatment goals or outcomes?
  • Can we do a combination of virtual and in-person session work?
